The Architect of Sound
Where Every Song is a Story!
Where Every Song is a Story!
For David Gurwitz, music is not merely a collection of notes but a profound medium for storytelling, emotional resonance, and healing. He approaches his work as a “renaissance musician,” guided by the principle that Every Song is a Story, and Every Story is a Song. This philosophy underscores that every composition is born from a true experience, a deep backstory waiting to be told through the universal language of melody and harmony.
David’s unique creative process is rooted in a fascinating neurological trait known as synesthesia, where he literally “sees the sound” often before but certainly while he hears it. This visual experience allows him to “architect” the cacophony of sound, translating vibrations into emotional compositions that are both mathematically precise and deeply human.
His eclectic style is a rich tapestry woven from the influences of iconic and diverse artists like George Winston, Keith Jarrett, Aztec Two Step, Bob Seger, Yanni, Wynton Marsalis, many Motown artists, David Bowie, and Paul Simon – as well as Mozart and Claude Debussy - spanning genres from New Age and soft rock to classical and vibrant dance music.
Although he is a concert pianist and prolific composer, David does not read music; his compositions are performed entirely by ear.
This extraordinary talent, which he describes as either hearing a song in his head, or sitting at the piano and often developing from a “mistake,” allows him to connect with the music on a purely intuitive level, unconstrained by formal notation.
This direct connection is what allows him to create music that, as he puts it, “hypnotizes the audience” during his live performances.
