Where a Passion for Numbers Was Born

The Bronx High School of Science is one of the most prestigious public high schools in the United States, and it is renowned for its rigorous academic program and its focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). For David Gurwitz, his time at Bronx Science was a formative experience, a place where his natural aptitude for mathematics was nurtured and where he developed the intellectual foundation that would support his future creative endeavors.

A Different Path

While many of his classmates went on to pursue careers in science and engineering, David’s journey took a different path.

It was at Bronx Science that he first began to explore the connections between mathematics and other fields, and it was here that he developed the interdisciplinary mindset that would become a hallmark of his work.

He learned to see the world through a mathematical lens, to recognize the patterns and structures that underlie the complexities of the world, and to appreciate the elegance and beauty of a well-crafted equation.

The Discovery at Age 19

It was in college, at the age of 19, that David had his “aha” moment. It was in an advanced mathematics course that he first learned about the profound connection between music and math, and it was this discovery that set him on the path to becoming a composer and a concert pianist.

He realized that the same principles of logic, of pattern, and of structure that he had learned to love in mathematics were also at the heart of the music that he was beginning to create. It was a revelation that would change the course of his life.

A Unique Combination of Credentials

David’s journey did not end with his discovery of the music-math connection. He went on to earn a J.D. from Boston College Law School, an MBA from New York University, and to become a Certified Public Accountant. This unique combination of credentials, a blend of the creative and the analytical, has given him a unique perspective on the world and has allowed him to approach his work with a rare combination of artistic intuition and intellectual rigor.
