About David Gurwitz

Bronx-born and New York native David Gurwitz has been composing, recording, and performing on the piano for live audiences for many years, but his journey is anything but conventional. His story is one of discovering hidden talents, embracing a multifaceted identity, and inspiring others to pursue their own “encore careers.”

David’s musical journey began in a rather unusual way. He started playing the piano for the first time in college, at the age of 19. David had a good musical ear, and hosted a widely followed show on the college radio station. He was also a math-focused graduate of the prestigious Bronx High School Of Science. He  learned in an advanced mathematics course in College that music and math were profoundly connected. He cannot read a single note of music; he does everything by ear, a testament to his intuitive and deeply personal connection to his craft. This unique approach was further shaped by the discovery, years after his mother’s tragic death, that she had performed at Carnegie Hall in the 1930s. The genetic talent was discovered, a gift from God.

His music, produced by the acclaimed Rock and Roll and Broadway musician Brian Koonin, has generated a worldwide following. It is a rich blend of multiple instruments and piano solos and moving melodies that has been described as “relaxing, peaceful, elevating, refreshing, grooving and uplifting.” His composition “Hear the Children,” dedicated to the athletes of Special Olympics Connecticut, evoked a particularly emotional response from fans across the globe.

Beyond the stage, David is a man of many talents and credentials. He holds a BA from Brandeis University, a J.D. from Boston College Law School, and an MBA from New York University, and he is also a Certified Public Accountant. He also attended the prominent Bronx High School

Today, David’s work is organized around five core pillars: Music, Mentoring, Mindfulness, Mathematics, and Making a Difference. Through these pillars, he seeks to not only share his own gifts but also to empower others to discover and develop their own. Whether through the healing power of his music, the transformative guidance of his mentorship, the practical wisdom of his mindfulness teachings, the innovative approach of his mathematics education, or the inspiring impact of his philanthropic work, David Gurwitz is dedicated to creating a legacy of purpose, passion, and positive change.
